This will be our second ambient & experimental series at Bossa Nova Civic Club! Metamorph is an immersive experience that utilizes music and live visuals to incubate a shift in perception. This event is free! Like the first one there will be rugs on the dance floor. We’ve also figured out a better setup for visuals and lighting to set the mood.
Tenkai is an ambient & experimental artist who will be coming from San Franscisco to perform a modular live set. Founder of Zetaohm and creator of the modular synth FLXS1, he pushes his music to other-worldy boundaries that stands true to an artform in itself.
Praised as “Bjork-like” and “innovative” by the New York Times, Australian bassist Lisa Dowling (Kills to Kisses) has had her ears and fingers in the post-classical, post-rock, post-post world of sound since she graduated from music school. Wanting to give her beloved instrument a fresh voice, she created kills to kisses to showcase the unique and surprising capabilities of an instrument that is usually not recognized for its virtuosity. Her music is bass-centric, but not in the ways you would expect; luscious, pulsating melodies soar over funky bass riffs and electronic drones creating a “brusquely subtle or exquisitely dense” (Inanna Naked) cinematic language that will beg of your hips. Her mastery of looping technology, “delicate, pure voice” (Woodstock Times), and serious chops create a veritable tour-de-force that is a breath of fresh air. Kills to kisses has been presented at the Berkshire Fringe Festival, the Contagious Sounds Series and regularly performs in and around NYC.
Jad Atoui is a Lebanese music composer and electronic sounds experimentalist. Using his electronic gear and field recordings that express raw sounds as they appear to us through nature, he produces and composes music that fits styles of ambient, dub techno and glitch. The sonic feel in this body of work shifts from ambient to purely electronic, harsh yet hypnotizing sounds. His work has been featured in Pompidou Center (2012, Paris). As for performances, Jad Atoui performed with renowned artists like John Zorn, Ikue Morie and Erik Friedlander.
From anime-inspired beats to minimal ambient micro-house, otodojo resists confinement in any particular genre. The name ‘otodojo’ is translated to ‘a sound place for learning’, which reflects its function: an environment built for experimentation, and free from expectation.
A NYC resident AJ Clay has been spreading his deep, techy, progressive sound throughout the city. When it comes to DJ’ing, AJ believes in one thing: the programming of a night. His name is well on the way to standing for a brand that represents a certain mixture of sounds that build and progress as the night carries on. Also, with a deep passion for ambient & down tempo; AJ has been exploring his more experimental roots as of late. For this particular night he will be laying down an ambient & down tempo DJ set for us.
