Artcast 004: Evigt Mörker & Madelen Foss
Metamorph’s Artcast series focuses on the idea of Synesthesia, a condition in which one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another. Featured in our fourth Artcast is DJ & Producer Evigt Mörker and artist Madelen Foss; who is an illustrator and artist who’s work is colourful and bright, inspired by animals, people, feelings, and the surreal. Evigt is also playing for us on January 7th 2017, visit this link for more details: Metamorph w/ Evigt Mörker, Patricia, & UMFANG.
Evigt Mörker is based out of Sweden, and his sound is undoubtedly affected by the country’s dense forest landscapes. He has managed to position himself in the Swedish music landscape as one to keep an eye on. Without losing connection with the strong tradition of Swedish melancholy and darkness, his compositions also celebrate the sensation of salvation. With the third EP out on his own label, Evigt Mörker, and another release coming out on Semantica shortly; the journey towards the end of the tunnel has just begun.
Madelen Foss is a Norwegian illustrator and artist living in Oslo. She graduated from Kingston University in London with a BA (hons) in illustration after studying art for two years at Strykejernet Art School in Oslo before moving to London to get her bachelor degree. She enjoys working with oil, pastels, watercolors, ink and posca markers and is always experimenting with other types of materials. After discovering Hattie Stewart’s art before moving to London was when Madelen Foss was first introduced to posca pens. It wasn’t until after she was back in Oslo where she further explored the use of them in her artwork. Being a big fan of both Piet Parra & the 80s, she finds anything wierd and colourful inspiring. She mentions in an interview with Pop Shop America, “Things don’t always have to make sense in my opinion, at least not when you’re creating personal projects.” You can definitely see that idea put into life in the works she creates as well as the piece she created for this Artcast. While listening to the Evigt Mörker mix, she imagined herself deep in the forest. The sounds around Madelen were far away, muted. She felt as though she was underwater, in a lake, yet close enough to the surface so she could still hear the world around her, people sitting around campfires and talking, birds chirping. The lake was deep, dark and calm, but she was floating, looking up at the muted world surrounding her. This inspiration you can see in her piece while also listening to Evigt’s mix. Let your imagination run free while enjoying both the music and art that was inspired by it.
